2021 Road Trip Night 8

After driving going to the Sun Road we drove to just north of Yellowstone National Park to camp at Gardiner Dispersed Camping in Custer Gallatin National Forest. There are several semi-developed campgrounds in the area that charge $10-$15. More information on both the campgrounds and dispersed camping is available here: chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/viewer.html?pdfurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.fs.usda.gov%2FInternet%2FFSE_DOCUMENTS%2Ffseprd915000.pdf&clen=564432&chunk=true

We got to the Gardiner Area around sunset and the views were amazing. To get to the dispersed campground you have to drive past Eagle Creek Campground and keep going for quite a ways. We downloaded the National Forest app and highly recommend it. This let us see exactly where we were compared to the map so we knew when we reached the dispersed camping area. There were lots of people camping in spots that looked like you could camp on the road before the dispersed camping area, however, the Custer Gallatin National Forest website says that rangers may come during the night and make you move. The views were incredible.

Our dog really enjoyed all the smells sitting in the truck and on her walk. We stuck to walking her along the road. Overall we loved this camping spot and would highly recommend it.
