2021 Road Trip Night 9

Our first night at Yellowstone National Park we camped at Indian Creek Campground. As soon as we woke up we drove straight to the campsite to reserve a space since they are able to be reserved in advance, but we waited to see what we could get on that day (partly because we knew that we could drive back out to Gallatin National Forest to camp). One thing that we really liked about this campground is that it was back off of the main road and was quieter than some of the other campgrounds. On the drive into the campsite we saw a very exhausted looking buffalo.

After a day exploring the park, we came back to the campsite. I took some time to scrapbook while Jerry went for a walk. I enjoyed watching the deer that were walking around the camp.

While I was scrapbooking Jerry walked to Obsidian Creek at the entrance to the campground. The black rocks in the creek are obsidian which is a rock that forms natural glass. This creek is often used for fishing, but people should be cautious because when these rocks break it can be very sharp. Obsidian is one kind of rock that arrowheads are made out of. Remember, nothing can be removed from the National Parks. We enjoyed seeing the rocks and placed the one we picked up back immediately. (Also we found these rocks stacked up, but the National Parks have asked that people not stack rocks because it can damage wildlife habitat and in some cases change the river flow.)
