2021 Trip Night 5- Camping in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

It was getting dark by the time we got back to the campsite, but it was so worth it to see all the animals as the sunset. We camped in Cottenwood Campground in Theodore Roosevelt South Unit. There's no air movement in this camp so it was hot all night. Most of the year it's probably great when it's cold to get out of the wind. Although cottonwoods extend into Georgia we had never seen one we could identify. It's hard to see in this picture but the bark looked different with it's deep ridges and felt different because the bark felt softer than other trees with which we're more familiar.

As with any campground, check the water before you start drinking it. Always have enough water with you in case you cannot get any water. In the campground there were bugs in the water fountain (it happens, we're outside). The water had a slightly yellowish tent to it and tasted slightly salty. I'm sure it was fine, but we didn't like the taste.

We can't wait to stay here again, hopefully in cooler weather. It was a nice looking campground and it was nice to be in the park.
